Admissions to the College of Medicine



The PMU College of Medical curriculum is based on a 7-year hybrid model between the US and KSA medical school structures. This 7-year curriculum combines a variety of course-type:


Curriculum Structure

The curriculum structure in Years 1 and 2:

Biological and Physical Science Courses

  • Biology: One full year (2 courses) of general biology with laboratory.
  • Advanced Level Biology: One semester (1 course) of an advanced-level biology course such as microbiology, genetics, physiology.
  • General Chemistry: One year (2 courses) of general chemistry or equivalent with laboratory.
  • Organic Chemistry: One year (2 courses) of organic chemistry with an accompanying laboratory*.
  • Biochemistry: One semester (1 course) of introductory biochemistry.
  • Physics: One full year (2 courses) of general physics with laboratory.

Behavioral Science Courses

  • Social and Behavioral Sciences: At least three courses such as psychology, sociology, political science, economics, communications, etc.

Longitudinal Courses

  • Community Medicine.
  • Medicine as a Profession with research component.

The curriculum structure in Years 3 and 4:

  • Block 0: Optional primer course content for remaining blocks (fully online)
  • Block 1: Body Systems & Homeostasis 1
  • Block 2: Pathogenesis
  • Block 3: Skin, Muscle & Movement
  • Block 4: Circulation & Respiration
  • Block 5: Digestion & Homeostasis 2
  • Block 6: Brain & Behavior
  • Block 7: Regulation & Reproduction
  • Block 8: Synthesis (Longitudinal)
  • Block 9: Transition to Clerkship (Part 1 of CCC – see section below for explanation of CCC)
  • Doctoring and Clinical Skills (Longitudinal)
  • Medical Colloquia (Longitudinal)

  • Family Medicine
  • Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry
  • Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Neurology
  • Clinical Intersections (Part 2 of CCC)
  • Population Health (to be developed in launch phase)

The curriculum structure in Year 6 is:

Elective Rotations

Surgery 8 weeks (Two 4-week electives)

Required Rotations

Advanced Surgery and one of the following electives:

  • Orthopedics
  • Plastic, Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgery
  • Surgical Oncology
  • Vascular Surgery (2-week elective)

Internal Medicine 8 weeks (Two 4-week electives)

Required Rotations

Advanced Internal Medicine and one of the following electives:

  • Cardiology
  • Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Hematology/Oncology
  • Infectious Diseases

Pediatrics 8 weeks (Two 4-week electives)

Required Rotations

Advanced Pediatrics and one of the following electives:

  • Pediatric Cardiology
  • Pediatric Endocrinology
  • Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
  • Pediatric Surgery

Obstetrics and Gynecology 8 weeks (Two 4-week electives)

Required Rotations

Advanced Obstetrics and Gynecology and one of the following electives:

  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Reproductive Endocrinology
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine

Emergency Medicine 8 weeks (Two 4-week electives)

Required Rotations

  • Advanced Emergency Medicine
  • Emergency Medicine Clinical Research Associates

Family/Community Medicine 8 weeks (Two 4-week electives)

Required Rotations

Advanced Family Medicine and one of the following electives:

  • Family Medicine (2-week elective)
  • Geriatric Medicine

Elective 4 weeks (One 4-week elective)

Required Rotations

One of the following electives:

  • Advanced Neurology
  • Dermatology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Otolaryngology
  • Population Health (to be developed in launch phase)
  • Urology

Admission Criteria

In order to be considered for admissions to College of Medical major, the candidate should meet the major specific requirements. To calculate the acceptance percentage for PMU CoM, based on total weighted score, interview performance, and IELTS scores, the process typically involves understanding the weighting and criteria that the medical college uses to evaluate applicants. Here’s how each factor can contribute to the overall acceptance percentage:

*20% high school + 40% Qudrat + 40% Tahseely were 86 is the minimum acceptable score

NOTE: Entry point: Preparatory Year to study English to reach 6.5 in IELTS. Applicants with minimum overall IELTS score of 5.5 and 5.0 in writing and reading are allowed to apply. After the completion of the required preparatory courses and achieved overall 6.5 and minimum 6.0 in writing and reading in IELTS, they may become eligible for admission into the CoM.


How to Apply:

  1. Complete online application
  2. Submit documents before due date
    • Copy of secondary school certificate or equivalent (95%)
    • Copy of General Aptitude Test score report (Qudrat) (80) or equivalent (SAT 1)
    • Copy of Standard Achievement Admission Test score report (SAAT – Tahseely) (80) or equivalent (SAT 1) 1300
    • Copy of Saudi ID or Iqama
    • Copy of passport
  3. Pay a non-refundable application fee of SAR 1000 (incl. VAT) upon submission of documents
  4. Submit original IELTS (minimum 5.5 overall and minimum 5.0 in Writing and Reading skills) (Academic version) certificate

Admission Process

  • After receiving and reviewing the above requirements, the admissions office will set an appointment for an interview
  • The final decision will be communicated through the Admissions Office
