Structural & Geotechnical Design of a Multistory Building using RCC & CLT

Project Overview

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's major cities are constructing multi-story buildings and following the Saudi 2030 vision, this approach is being implemented in all the city’s kingdom wide. In this regard multi-story buildings becoming essential to be used nowadays to give attractions and beauty for all the Saudi cities.

This report proposed a structural design of a multi-story building located in Al Aziziyah, Khobar, Saudi Arabia. This project will conduct a comparison of two different design materials which are reinforced concrete (RCC) and cross-laminated timber (CLT). This building will be consisting of thirteen floors that contain parking, commercial, and residential.

This report will outline a structural design for both reinforced concrete and cross-laminated timber. Also, design modeling by using computer software ETABS. The report will contain detailing of hand calculation for both structures RCC & CLT, and finally, cost estimation of the project and multi-attempt of foundation design to provide the safest and suitable foundation for our structure.

This report was written to cover design and analysis as clearly as possible to make the reader understand the intention behind this project. Every step and detail were discussed to show the process of designing a structural multi-story building.

Project Objectives

  1. Structural analysis & design for both reinforced concrete and cross-laminated timber
  2. Structural modeling by using computer software ETABS.
  3. Steel detailing of hand calculation for both structures RCC & CLT.
