Our goal is to design a water treatment plant near to new Jubail University Campus (JUC). The objective of the project is to provide the new campus treated water and also to reduce the pressure on the existing water treatment plant of Jubail Industrial city. Various components of plant such as storage tank, sedimentation tank, Coagulation-flocculation tank and filtration tank have been designed. The design period of the plant has been proposed to be 20 years and it could serve the population of 30,000 and the estimated discharge would be . Basic design with hydraulic and structural aspect was also completed. Both storage tank and final storage tank are proposed to be circular units having the dimension of 5 m x 18 m x 18 m (depth x diameter x length, respectively). The plant has a rectangular filtration tank with a size of 4.5 m x 5.5 m x 6 m (width x length x height respectively) recommended designing the system. Also, coagulation and flocculation are used to separate the suspended solids portion from the water. Suspended particles vary in source, charge, particle size, shape, and density. Coagulation and flocculation occurs in successive steps, allowing particle collision and growth of flocculation. It is obvious that proper maintenance of the plant would increase the design period and minimize the problems that might cause shutdown or affect the efficiency of the plant. The structural design calculation of proposed tanks was also demonstrated in the report.
The project is aimed to design a water treatment plant to serve the community; the following are the objectives of the project:
The final objective of the proposed design project is to provide basic information for any future actual design of water treatment plant for the new JUC campus.
