Under the supervision of the Deanship of Student Affairs and with the collaboration of the Saudi Chess Association, the PMU Chess Club held its first tournament of the year on Saturday September 30, 2017.
Dr Muhammad Al Mulhem, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs was the honorary starter of the tournament.
The tournament was held on the weekend so students would be able to participate without missing class. Representing four counties – KSA, Yemen, India and Pakistan – the participants played seven continuous rounds of 10 minute blitz chess. In this blitz tournament, each player was allotted a total of 10 minutes to make all his moves, monitored by an official Stopwatch used in international tournaments.
The top four competitors were qualified to play in a final tournament, which will take place on campus at a day and time to be announced shortly. The top four players were:
Adel Sakhr (Yemen)
Umar Malik (Saudi Arabia)
Sultan Orri (Saudi Arabia)
Ayman Al Sahfy (Saudi Arabia)
The finals will determine the rating of the first four players who will represent PMU in other official competitions throughout Saudi Arabia for the academic year 2017-2018.
